Then There Was None

The last of the Red Cross volunteers pulled out this morning. Some making the trip to Baton Rouge for phase II in their hurricane relief efforts - others were actually able to return home. For the last few weeks we housed just under 100 Red Cross volunteers in our Family Center. This experience has reminded me how much we use this building. I also realize that some of our activities had to be changed or even cancelled. However, the inconveniences were worth it. I was proud that we were able to donate our facility to help in this ministry. The volunteers were great. They were so thankful and complimentary of our building and hospitality. Mary O'Donnell, Red Cross Facility Director, writes to us:

"I couldn't leave without trying to thank you for all you and your congregation did for us. Although we, as the Red Cross, are known for sheltering others, you provided our shelter from the storm, provided a place where we could rest, come together as friends and colleagues and revive our energy and spirit. You provided a place of peace for us amidst a great deal of turmoil and more than that you cared for and nurtured our faith and hope in making a difference. Many people talk the talk of Christianity and Fellowship but your congregation truly walks the walk. Again thank you for all you did, I know that those of us lucky enough to have enjoyed the hospitality will never forget you or Shreveport. You will always have a special place in my heart and prayers."

This Sunday we will be back to our normal schedule. Early service will meet in the gym and the Seniors will have their luncheon. Next Wednesday we will have our 6:00 meal and 7:00 Bible study. Normal sounds good. Mary's thank you felt good. This is a good place to call home!
