Gold Medals and Crowns

It is a rainy Wednesday morning and I am realizing that late night Olympic coverage and early morning drives to school do not go very well together. How can you be more tired waking up than you were when you went to bed? At least we won some gold medals and got our kids back in school. I wish there were medals for parents that bought all the right school supplies for each child, packed the perfect lunch, and made it to school on time with their child properly dressed with all their student fees in hand. Maybe it would be easier knowing if we sacrifice just a little more we could actually win the Gold!

The first day of school was pretty good. Two out of the three kids enjoyed their new classes and new teachers. I know you are thinking two out of three isn't too bad. However, 66.67% is probably a solid D. On top of that Lori wasn't comfortable with one of our kid's schedule. That is an F no matter how you look at it. I am just amazed at how slowly I am remembering the schedule. I know that change is inevitable. It is like death and taxes - so it should be postponed as long as possible.

I am also noticing each year my kids move up a grade. What is up with that? Heather turned 13 in March, Hailey will be 16 in January (help me), and my mom turns 75 in a couple of weeks. That doesn't seem right. To add insult to injury my brother told me that when dad moved to Duncanville, which was not that long ago, He was my brother's age! WOW!

I don't know if it is mid life, back to school, or just too much late night Olympics but it seems like a good time for reflection. This is the time to discover - what is our gold medal? Mine is a crown that will last forever. WOW!! I feel much younger now!
