Elementary, Middle, and High School!
Tuesday the alarm went off at a new time. I slowly got out of my bed and made my way through the dark house to Heather's room. I announced, "It is the first day of school and it is time to get up." Surprisingly she was eager to awake. Her new clothes were laid out and ready for the 7th grade. The coffee tasted especially good this morning.
One hour later it was time to wake up Hailey. She went to bed early the night before, but thoughts of being a freshman made sleep difficult. That is probably why she didn't jump out of bed to face the new day. As she ate some breakfast Heather and I were making our way to the car. "Don't forget to come back to pick me up," Hailey yelled. Lori rushed out to take our picture and then we were off.
Caleb was now putting on his new school clothes. He would be starting second grade wearing a sporty new blue designer cast on his left arm. Lori was running on nervous energy. She had not slept the night before worrying about which teacher Caleb would get and if his best friend would be in his class. The wrong teacher and the wrong class could be very traumatic for her, oops, I mean him.
"I can't believe the traffic!" "We left so early." "These sixth grade parents do not even know how to drive." "Heather, tomorrow we need to leave earlier!" I hurried home to pick up Hailey. I was surprised that there wasn't much traffic at the high school. However, some of the experienced parents were looking at me like I was looking at the sixth grade parents at Heather's school. Hailey spent the day going to the wrong place and going down the up stairs. "Freshmen!"
I rushed to Caleb's school and I noticed Lori was smiling. Caleb had the right teacher and was sitting next to his best friend. Lori was taking pictures. "Perfect!"
At the end of the day Hailey and Heather were full of stories about their first day. Caleb didn't say anything. However, when Lori asked him how his day went he shrugged his shoulders and said, "Good." A boy of few words - just like his daddy!
