Back To School
Every year we talk about how fast the summer goes by. Last year our three months of vacation was drastically reduced to two months. This year we actually had 2½ months, but our two month perceived reality made us rush to get everything accomplished. There was softball, baseball, vacations, and stuff. We had to get it all in. Let's be honest - did you ever look forward to school starting again?
When Lori was about to have her surgery my kids were worried that I would have to take them shopping for school supplies! Hailey said, "Dad will take us to Big Lots and buy us the cheapest supplies." So Lori took them before her surgery. Letters from school are arriving every day. Don't forget the back to school freshman orientation, club meetings, parent meetings, and homework assignments! Caleb will have to begin the new school year with a cast on his left arm. He is thinking about telling his new teacher that he is left handed. Do you see any relief in this?
I am writing this article to remind us of life. As the commercial says, "Life comes at you fast!" It will be very easy for us to go from an extremely busy summer to a very busy fall. It will be very easy for us to stay out of the habit of church and Bible class. Always telling ourselves - "When things slow down then we will get back to priority." I don't see things slowing down! We must make the decision to put first things first. That is called purpose. We must do the things that are most important. That is called commitment. We must learn to take some things off of our plate. That is called wisdom. We must find time for renewal. That is called peace.
