Judges and Ruth

On Wednesday October 15th, 2008 we started a study on the book of Judges. Six months and 23 lessons later, we have finally finished the study. I can’t think of a more powerful and relevant study for our day. I hope, if you missed the series, that you will go online and listen to these lessons. I will try to see if we can produce a mp3 cd of the entire series.

The book of Judges is the history of Israel after the conquest and before they ask for a king. It is the beginning of living in the land. In golf they say that you can’t win the tournament on the first day, but you can lose the tournament on the first day. Michigan State could teach us a lesson on a poor beginning. When they took the court in the championship game against North Carolina, they actually had lost the game by halftime. I think in teaching the importance of finishing well, we often forget about the danger of a poor beginning. A poor beginning can make the rest of our history very difficult. So God gave us Precepts, Parents, Priest, Problems, and Pain. Start well!

I have decided to start a new series on Wednesday night beginning April 22nd. We are going to look at the story of Ruth. Again it is a story about an extremely difficult beginning. However, through the grace of God and the faith of Ruth, we will celebrate the ending. Ruth, a Moabite widow, will be in the genealogy of Jesus. If you are a young person, I can’t stress enough, the importance of a good beginning. It makes life so much easier. However, Ruth can redeem those who know about problems and pain!

See you on Wednesdays!
