Welcome 2007

I saw a picture of Hailey and one of her best friends that they took the other day. For some reason it was just like the one they had made 3 years ago. The pose was the same, Hailey was on the same side, with the same grin, but something was incredibly different. The three year old picture showed two little girls having fun. The more recent picture looked more like two young ladies smiling for the camera. Dad was not ready for that.

Speaking of dad, my dad will be 75 next month. We will gather at the Bardwell church of Christ and listen to Paw Paw preach and enjoy a pot-luck meal. This is the same church I used to preach in during my college years. I remember Pops and Granny sitting in their pew listening to their grandson attempt to wax eloquent.

In March I will celebrate twenty years in full time ministry. It was in March of 1987 I moved to Denison, Texas to preach at the Morton St. Church. Looking back I realize if I had joined the army I could retire.

In August I will turn forty five. I guess I am officially at mid life. Please do not do the math. OK, I am a little past mid life. Getting older can be a humbling experience. By the time you gain a little understanding it is too late. Either you forget the wisdom you have discovered or you find that no one is listening anymore.

Do you remember the picture of Hailey and her friend? Now is the time to make the most of every opportunity. (I stole those words from Paul.) Now is the time to press on toward the goal. (Paul again) Now - is the time we have. (That's mine.) Let us make it a great year. I welcome 2007.
